REAL ESTATE, THE REAL DEAL

Image
FIVE REVEALING REASONS WHY INVESTING IN REAL ESTATE IS BETTER THAN SAVING IN THE BANK Some feel that saving money in the bank is a good strategy to building wealth. Though it is very good to save, it is not a good wealth building strategy. The gains of real estate investment far outweighs that of saving in the bank for the following reasons. 1. Currency always diminish in value while real estate appreciates: The purchasing power of money continually diminishes. The things One million naira could buy five years ago are not the same things it can buy today as the prices of goods have gone up. However, real estate always appreciates. If you buy a plot of land in a good location, take effective possession and perfect necessary documentation today, in five years time, you can sell it for double (or even triple) the price you bought it. 2. Return on savings is infinitesimal while returns on real estate investments are huge: When you save your money in the bank or do a fixed deposit, your...

MASS ACTION LOOMS IN NIGERIA POLICE FORCE AS RANK AND FILE GRADUATES STRATEGIZE

Image
POLICY OF CAREER RETROGRESSION AS IT AFFECTS NPF RANK AND FILE GRADUATES  The Nigeria Police Force, without mincing words, is the largest government security agency in Africa. Its work force comprising a large chunk of the rank and file, work assiduously in both fair and inclement season of the year, yet are at the receiving end of everything, yet against all odd, they struggled to earn a higher academic qualification with the belief that it will give them a hope of brighter tomorrow.  The Force has three (3) entry points viz: enlistment into the Constable, Cadet Inspectors, Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) cadres respectively. The Force has never been in short supply of those to fill the Constable cadres, obviously because of its low level educational requirements, unlike the ASPs cadre that entails higher academic degrees. Suffice to say, that was when it became imperative for the Police Acts and Regulation to state in Section 39 of Part IV (Appointments)...

MICHAEL JORDAN : A STORY TO INSPIRE THE WEAK MIND

Image
Michael Jordan was born in 1963, in the slums of Brooklyn, New York. He had four  siblings and his father's earnings were not sufficient to provide for the whole family. He grew up in a poor neighbourhood. Exposed to mindless violence and heavy discrimination in the slums, he saw for himself only a hopeless future. His father saw in Michael, a lost soul and decided to do something. He gave Michael, who was 13 years old, a piece of used clothing and asked: "What do you think the value of this outfit would be?" Jordan replied,"Maybe one dollar." His father asked, "Can you sell it for two dollars? If you can sell it, it would mean that you are a big help to your family." Jordan nodded his head, "I'll try, but no guarantee that I'll be successful." Jordan carefully washed the cloth clean. Because they didn't have an iron, to smoothen the cloth, he levelled it with a clothes brush on a flat board, then kept it in the sun to dry...

MARK ZUKERBERG SEEK TO ELIMINATE ALL FORM OF INFANT SICKNESS FROM EARTH SURFACE

Image
Says  Mark ZUKERBERG Our team at the Biohub just funded its first class of investigators -- 47 scientists from Stanford, UCSF and Berkeley working to help cure all diseases in our children's lifetime. Today, just four kinds of diseases cause the majority of deaths. The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative is focused on bringing scientists and engineers together to build technology to make progress on all of them. We're investing $50 million in this first class of investigators. This program will provide 5 years of funding to some of the most innovative researchers in the Bay Area, especially focused on young scientists early in their careers.  This first group includes a Stanford data scientist working to analyze massive quantities of genomic data, a doctor from UCSF looking at how malaria spreads, an engineer from Berkeley who is designing tools to better understand human biology, including a miniature foldable microscope, and more. This is a diverse group, with almost 50% women an...

LAND MATTERS

Image
LAND MATTERS   2.0 It was 10 minutes before 5pm, Femi was  loitering at the bus station. On his laps sat a well-wrapped parcel bonded with glistening red ribbons. He knew she closes from work by 5:00pm, and she boards bus at that exact location, always. He had all the plans set out; he intended to surprise her. He became lost in thought. He remembered the last time he had invited her out two months ago with aim of declaring his love for her. He had rehearsed the sweet, rhyme wooing speech for two hours by his shower mirror while having his bath. But it seems his head was wiped clean, like a starving prisoner devouring a dish of delicious soup, when the time to deliver came. He stuttered without control, couldn't find the right words and mumbled incoherent phrases. To save the situation, she had to change the topic. One could not have been more embarrassed. Her image flooded his mind. Everything about her thrills him. From her impeccable white set of teeth, to the hummi...

YOU ARE A UNIQUE ENTITY

Image
Think what a remarkable, unduplicatable, and miraculous thing it is to be you! Of all the people who have come and gone on the earth, since the beginning of time, not ONE of them is like YOU! No one who has ever lived or is to come has had your combination of abilities, talents, appearance, friends, acquaintances, burdens, sorrows and opportunities. No, one's hair grows exactly the way yours does. No one's finger prints are like yours. No one has the same combination of secret inside jokes and family expressions that you know. The few people who laugh at all the same things you do, don't sneeze the way you do. No one prays about exactly the same concerns as you do. No one is loved by the same combination of people that love you - NO ONE! No one before, no one to come. YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY UNIQUE! Enjoy that uniqueness. You do not have to pretend in order to seem more like someone else. You weren't meant to be like someone else. You do not have to lie to conceal the p...
